What’s in a kiss?
Hungarian filmmaker Tatia Pilieva wanted to explore just that in her recent project entitled First Kiss. The premise was simple: She asked 20 strangers to kiss for the first (and possibly only) time on camera. The actual execution, however, was anything but.
The three-minute, 28-second compilation captures all the giddiness, nervousness and awkwardness that comes with any first kiss. There’s also all the beauty, tenderness and vulnerability you would expect in such an intimate set-up. It’s all there, but when you consider these people were meeting for the first time, those emotions and feelings are ten-fold, almost palpable.
Watch as the strangers make introductions, acknowledge the bizarreness of the situation, and get ready to dive in. Once they finally lock lips, however, the nervous laughter and awkwardness is replaced by the kind of passion and sweetness you wouldn’t expect; some of the couples make it look like they’ve been kissing each other for years. And then there are a couple of unfortunate ones that didn’t quite share the same energy as the rest.
