How many times have you fought an urge to fling your phone off because of the endless needy texts you get from your girlfriend? "Where are you?" "Why didn't you call me?" What are you doing right now?" "Are you with another girl?" "Do you like her better than me?" or is it even worse?
The arrival of the internet, accompanied with high end gadgets, especially social media, has changed the rules of dating altogether. Instant Messaging is the new conversation, phone calls are the new arguments and feelings have turned into statuses and tweets. The new generation will not ring the door bell but will text or call to say they are waiting at the door.
Following is an insight on how technology is doing more harm than good to modern day love stories.
Obsession with Technology
Texting is seen as a great way to build up the heat before a date. Lovers today share sweet nothings with each other via SMS instead of inconvenient and laborious hand written notes. But the downside is it has shrunken down the private little space you once had. Talk about dating sites, having instant access to the photographs and private insights of loved ones social media has certainly eliminated the elements of intrigue and mystery from relationships. There is no need for context, nuance or warmth that only a human touch can provide.
High octane modern world
The new generation is adopting digital models for romantic communication. FaceTime instead of having face-to-face discussions, 'Tweet me', 'Whatsapp me' and e-flirting is the new wooing. Nowadays, it is ironic to play 'hard-to-get' since we have constantly glued our palm to the smart phones and our entire stream of self-consciousness is displayed for all to see online.
For example, you can't use the excuse 'I was too busy to call' or 'I didn't get time to reply to your message' when everyone can see you've been actively updating your Twitter feed and checking in on Facebook. In fact, communication is so fast and easy now that it has removed the 'thrill of the chase' and killed the idea of romance.
Stay connected
Women find comfort in words, a comfort they deserve hence they try to utilize the medium to the fullest. But men being more "reactive" communicators use their cell phones for pacification. Whether we like it or not, the digital age has written a new guide book for modern romance. So if you're still in the dating game, the answer may be to become fluent and open to all new technologies. Don't discriminate. Who knows, your tweet might bag you a scorching hot date. You won't even have to leave your house to fall in love.
