Getting to see this different side of your partner is an amazing opportunity.
Nowadays, it's not uncommon to be able to work remotely. Maybe not on a regular basis, but a day here or there can usually be spent sitting in front of a laptop at your local coffee shop. Which means that, at some point, there's very likely a day where you and your partner can both work from home together. And if you can, you should very much take advantage of that opportunity.
[post_ads]As a freelancer, I get to work wherever I want. Which means that I spend most of my days at home or in a coffee shop. I also, sadly, spend most days alone. Sometimes the only human interaction I get is with the cashier I order my coffee from. My girlfriend, on the other hand, works in an office. And while that means she gets consistent human contact over the course of the day, she also has to deal with meetings, interruptions, and your basic office politics.
Occasionally, however, she gets a chance to work remotely. And when she does, we often pack up our laptops and head down to the coffee shop to work together. If you get a chance to do this, I highly recommend it. Granted, neither of us get a lot done on the days we work together, but what we lose in productivity we make up for in strengthening our relationship.
Part of it is just having the person you care about most sharing your day with you. But it's also great seeing how your partner works. And what it is, exactly, they do. For me, it's a chance to peek inside a more traditional office job. As a writer, I honestly have no idea what most people do all day. I can only assume it's similar to the movie Office Space. Of course, for my partner, she has no idea what it is I do all day. So to actually see each other in action is quite a privilege.

But it's not just about having someone you actually want to spend time with during working hours. It's also about seeing your partner in business mode. It's about seeing a part of them that you only hear described to you at the end of the day. I can't completely explain it, but I love seeing my girlfriend work. The triumphs, frustrations, and moments of intense concentration that go into her average workday are not sides of her I necessarily get to see at home. And the same goes for her with regard to my work. Like, for instance, how I sometimes audibly swear at my computer when the writing isn't going well.
What it boils down to, though, is that you get a more well-rounded picture of each other when you work together. You get to see little nuances to their personality that you maybe don't experience at home. And you get to actually have a fun workday, which is definitely one in the win column.
